Are You Good Enough?
A few weeks ago, Rory McIlroy was victorious for his 20th career PGA win.
Rory admitted after the win that for the past several years, he was trying to “be someone else.”
McIlroy said that he finally realized that being Rory McIlroy was “good enough.” Instead of trying to be someone he wasn’t, he committed to being his best self.
This doesn’t occur just in golf.
How Good Are Your Investments? Part 2
Now up: Legacy and Life Balance
Legacy
It’s easy to get going so fast and furious that you get caught up in the “now.” While being present is important, so is taking some time to think about what you want to make sure survives you.
How Good Are Your Investments? Part 1
I’m not talking about your financial portfolio.
In all of these cases -and the list in not all-inclusive – we are not really dealing with “costs,” but rather “investments” for your mind, health, and peace of mind. In other words, the return on investment will be there, yet often is overlooked due to the financial commitment.
Extra Points: Final Rounds
This weekend I watched the recent episode of 60 Minutes, primarily to listen to the interview with the Facebook Whistle Blower.
I’m glad I kept watching to the final segment featuring Anderson Cooper’s story on the legendary performer, Tony Bennett.
The excellent piece had me near tears at the end and admittedly, I’m not a cryer!
Extra Points: Options. Give Me Options
As I’m want to do, I turned on Monday Night Football a couple weeks ago to watch the game. What I accidentally did was tun on ESPN 2 and found the Manning brothers – Peyton and Eli – sitting on sofas talking about the game in real time.
The brilliance of what ESPN did was to give us options. They created a way for both a novice and a lifelong viewer to watch the game in a way that is most entertaining for them.
We should all be doing this on our own businesses.
Extra Points: The Gift of Life (Insurance)
It’s Life Insurance Awareness Month.
While that may not sound quite as exciting as National Dog Day or National Ice Cream Month (which is July in case you care), it’s an important part of anyone’s business and personal planning.
Clearly, our own mortality has been awakened over the past year and a half because of COVID-19. In my own state, there is an average of 40 deaths per day, which is an increase of 53%. That means countless families are losing loved ones, and employers are losing employees.
Extra Points: It Takes All of Us
“Turn on the TV.”
I will never forget where I was and what I was doing when asked to turn on the television.
A fellow junior high parent who we carpooled with had called to say she wasn’t sending her daughter to school that day. The country was under attack and she was scared.
I remember almost scoffing at what seemed an absurdity.
Extra Points: Labor Day Special
In preparing for this year’s Labor Day Special, I decided to see what I wrote last year.
Ironic that while 2020 was the most volatile year in my lifetime, that the concept of “labor” and how we are living at least in North America hasn’t changed much in 12 months. In fact, my missive reads as true today as it did last September.
Extra Points: What’s Your Best?
My best round of golf is a 74 (+3 over par).
My best run/walk splits for over four miles is 10 minutes, 59 seconds.
My best year in business was 2019.
We should all know what our best is in the activities and events we compete in, whether they be personal or professional. Not only should we know what they are, but we should also be striving to achieve and exceed them.
