Which Way Are You Looking?janus

January is named after the Roman mythological God, Janus. Janus is shown with dual faces – one looking back and one looking forward. You can say he looks both to the past and the future. This time of year, many of us can relate to Janus’s duplicity.

There’s nothing wrong with considering the past until it becomes a hindrance to your future. You can’t change the past, you can only learn from it. Unfortunately, too many of us dwell on mistakes or circumstances that occurred outside our control. Those experiences can keep us from making bold and assertive moves in the future for fear of failure.

Keep looking forward and into the future. Use your past experiences as a guide, not a plan. In 2014, you will be offered many opportunities. All the important ones involve risk. The really bold ones involve a lot of risk. Be smart, but never fear. The future holds great things for all of us as long as we don’t get caught looking in the wrong direction.
