Extra Points: Consistency
My definition of mental toughness is to be able to eradicate the distractions, noise, and head trash to jump back in to activities and behaviors you want to change, but stopped being consistent on.
Head Trash
The person we most spend time talking to daily is ourselves. This can be a very good thing, and unfortunately also a very bad thing.
We humans have a tendency to be cruelest and most unbending to the person we should most be kind to.
And when the bad stuff starts piling up on a regular basis without the ability to be dumped in the proper receptacle outside, it becomes exactly what happens to what we dispose of at home, but allow to pile up.
Trash. In this case, head trash.
Heads Up!
Last week while playing golf, I heard a golfer from a nearby tee box yell, “heads up!”
If you’re a golfer, you know that the proper bellow for hitting a ball in the near vicinity of others is “fore!”
The difference is important.
Extra Points: Random Digressions
This past weekend was “Girls Weekend” at my house, when my perfect granddaughters came to to visit. We call them “The Pep Girls” and “Hurricane ELMA” for a reason.

Extra Points: Rescue Mission
I’ve been a big fan of the 1960s television sitcom, Gilligan’s Island since I was a kid.
For whatever reason, the goofy show about seven stranded castaways always makes me laugh, even as an adult. Now I’m sharing the exploits of Gilligan, the Skipper, and the gang with my granddaughters, as I own all three seasons on DVD.
Extra Points: Happy Independence Day
Growing up, I always thought the 4th of July was the the the celebration of the birth of our country. While that statement is in essence true, the reality is much more complex.
The Declaration of Independence was highly controversial within the 2nd Continental Congress. It took all the skills and efforts of John Adams…
Extra Points: Looking Three Ways
I was out for my Saturday morning run, well before the big heatwave would roll in later that day!
As I run on the sidewalk of one of the “main drags” of town, I still remain vigilant of cars that suddenly appear and want to enter. This particular morning, a car came barreling down to the stop sign.
Extra Points: If I Could Be Like Dan…
And I don’t mean me…
This past week, I played in a charity golf tournament. One of the players in my group was the 86-year old father-in-law of my First Underwriters Insurance business partner, Michael Oskouian.
Dan joined a bunch of “young guys” out on the course…
