And I don’t mean me…
This past week, I played in a charity golf tournament. One of the players in my group was the 86-year old father-in-law of my First Underwriters Insurance business partner, Michael Oskouian.
Dan – who also has a great first name – joined a bunch of “young guys” out on the course for a scramble format tournament. He played great!
He was always cheery and encouraging, and made many contributions to the team, including a fantastic par-saving putt from about 40 feet!
What was even more impressive to me – although his putt was very impressive – was that Dan eagerly came out to join a group of strangers to play a game that’s physically and mentally demanding, and can create a lot of self-doubt for anyone.
If I could be like THAT Dan when I’m 86 years old, I will take it right now!
Getting MORE out of life means taking risks at any age.
It requires confidence and courage.
It means being vulnerable and accepting what comes from it.
One of the obstacles to living “unleashed” is that too many humans create a self-imposed “fence” in their lives.
Fear of failure; fear of what other might think; fear of what others might say; and fear of not meeting our own expectations will keep us penned up in a yard that never allows us to grow, develop, fail, learn, and impact others.
We all inwardly know this, however you would likely agree with me that we’ve observed this fear factor not only in others, but also in ourselves.
Dan was an exceptional reminder that stepping out of one’s comfort zone and taking on vulnerability and risks at any age provides fun and lifetime memories.
I can’t speak for him, but for the other members in the group, him being there was definitely a birdie!
Note: In July, I’m embarking on a new program around being “Unleashed.” The concepts will be around advancing motivation, inspiration, and ideas for you to create a more rewarding life.
The announcement will come right after the Independence Day holiday. If you’d like an early sneak peak, email me with the subject – Get Unleashed!
