Hello. My name is Captain Jack and I’m the terribly charming, witty, and intelligent pal of my human, Dan. I’ve been observing human behavior and have come to the conclusion that you all can learn a lot from dogs. Especially me. You see, I’m a Jack Russell and we are unquestionably the smartest dogs on the planet. Welcome to my column…
Grandma went in the hospital last month and hasn’t come back yet. Dan tells me she is something called “rehabilitation,” and that she should be home soon. This is a big change for Bella and me. You see, Dan isn’t always home, but with her here, there was always somebody here to be with. I don’t like being alone, and not because I’m scared, but because I happen to crave and require attention (Bella is happy sleeping on the bed by herself). Since she has been gone, we are back to more time by ourselves.
I know humans have trouble with change. We dogs just kind of roll with the punches. These dog “experts” say that we don’t adapt well to change. My guess is we do better than humans! Change is a part of our lives and yours. It’s all in the attitude.
If you look at change as a bad thing, it will be. If you look at change as an opportunity, you will find it. Dogs look for opportunity anywhere we can because you just never know what you will find. We adopt quickly. Humans are slower and can learn a lot from a dog. The next time you have to go through some change, instead of moping about it, try being more like a dog and look for that bone in a new place. You never know what you will find!
Just saying…
