Perspective Redux

This was a tragic weekend. Three major disasters occurred in North America starting on Saturday morning and ending on Sunday. Most of the nation was focused on the unbelievable saga of the Asiana Air crash landing in San Francisco that killed two and hospitalized nearly 200 people. It overshadowed a tragic train crash in Quebec and another airplane crash in Soldotna, AK that killed all 10 passengers. I’ve taken that flight from Anchorage to the Kenai Peninsula and remember vividly what that flight feels like.

This makes for a tough way to start a new week, doesn’t it? The truth is that crises happen every day all over the world. 99.9% of them don’t end up on CNN or trend internationally on Twitter. Every day, people like you and I deal with small to major crises that affect us, our families, our friends, and our businesses.

Take this away from this weekend’s events as a lesson – In the San Francisco crash (as of late Sunday) 305 of the 307 people on that plane survived. The vast majority of crises you face are not fatal and you will survive, too. The biggest hurdle you face is the one you place in front of you. Anxiety over the future; remorse over the past; and a lack of self worth mask your talent and will do you in faster than anything else you conceive or perceive. The tragedies this weekend were fatal for many and our hearts go out to those families. Others will keep physical and emotional scars for year, yet have lived to fight another day. The next time you feel overwhelmed, scared, or uncertain, remember that your “fight” is most likely with yourself and you too will live to fight another day. The choice lies within your spirit.
