This week’s focus point…What’s Your Story?14_02_DanCapJackRetouch_001

Last Friday was my mom’s funeral. I was honored to give her eulogy and share about 11 minutes with all attending about her life. I used stories to help people gain a better understanding of her personality, her character, and the way she lived her life. The comments after reinforced that I had done that.

Stories always help the listener gain greater understanding. Regardless of the message, or if its purpose is personal or professional, the ability to deftly tell a story will enormously enhance engagement of the person listening.

If you goal is to be influential, then you had better become an expert in telling stories. They are perfect for metaphors, life lessons, or business applications. They help you inspire, motivate, teach, and sell. As we enter into the second month of the year, keep seeking out professional development opportunities….becoming a better storyteller would be a great place to start!
