Alicia Weedin passed away peacefully at her home at Emeritus at Montclair Park in Poulsbo, WA on January 6th. She was 90 years old.

She was born Alicia González Martínez in Bogotá, Colombia on April 24, 1924 to José Antonio González and Maria Elena Martínez. She lived in Bogotá into her adult life with her parents and 8 siblings. She worked as a buyer for her father’s clothing store and then for 9 years as the social secretary for the United States Naval Mission in Bogotá. This is where she met and married an American serviceman and the love of her life, Donald Weedin. They married at her family home in Bogotá on December 26, 1958.

Alicia moved to the United States in 1962 when Don was stationed in Norfolk, VA. After a few years there, they made their long-time home in Oak Harbor, WA for 34 years. Alicia was active for over 30 years in both the church and doing charitable projects in the community. She worked tirelessly as President for the Alice Esterly Orthopedic Guild of Children’s Hospital in Oak Harbor for many years. After Don retired from the Oak Harbor School District in 1988, they spent the rest of their time traveling to favorite locations around Washington State and enjoying their grandchildren. Alicia and Don moved to Poulsbo in 2003 to be closer to their grandchildren. Together, they also made over 10, 000 rosaries that were distributed to Catholic missionaries and to countless first communicants between the two parishes they belonged to over the years. They were inseparable during their retirement years.

Alicia was preceded in death by her husband Don in 2011; her parents; and 3 brothers – José Antonio (Pepe), Jaime, and Rafael.

Alicia is survived by her son, Dan Weedin (Barbara) of Poulsbo; her granddaughters Mindy Weedin and Kelli Weedin, also of Poulsbo; her sisters Lolo, Helena, Clara (Hernando), Lucia, and Consuelo of Colombia; her step-children Leslie Weedin (Karen) of Charlestown, IN, Kathy Vuckel (Jim) of Moses Lake, WA, and Rita Paradise of Tacoma, WA; and many nephews and nieces all across the globe.

Funeral service is scheduled for January 23rd at 11 a.m. at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Poulsbo. Mass will be preceded by a rosary at 10:30 and followed by a reception. There will be a burial at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo at 2 p.m.
