Your House
Client: “Do you think you can help me get to where I need to be in 9 months?”

Me: That depends on what the definition of need to be.”

This was part of my discussion with a coaching client recently. Lewis Carroll once quipped, “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.” This applies here.

My wife and I like to watch House Hunters International. The premise is that a couple are moving to a new country and looking to buy or rent a home. They initially meet with a realtor who asks them a very simple, but important question – “What do you want in your home?” How many bedrooms; do you want a view; how close to work?

The same can be asked of you when evaluating your career and life. In your ideal world, what does your “house” look like? If you don’t know where you are headed, how can you possibly make decisions or create metrics of success? You need to identify your ideal situation and then break through the gate unleashed. You may always change, but so what? It’s better to know what your ideal “house” looks like, so you can be bold in your next steps in getting there rapidly.
