Simple Always Wins   IMG_2667

Last week, I was eating lunch outside a small cafe in the office building I had been meeting a client in. My wife Barb had joined me on the trip and we enjoyed a nice, simple lunch. Since we live in the Pacific Northwest, we have been “encouraged” to be green and deliver our trash into the correct receptacles for future disposal. It’s not as simple as it sounds.

When I went to dump my trash, I found the green receptacle with “instructions.” As you can see, there are a myriad of do’s and don’ts associated with being green. I got so confused that after 10 seconds of dumbly staring, I found the nearest trash bin and just sent it all there.

Do you ever make your clients or prospects work too hard to do business with you? My guess is we are all guilty of that at times. This incident reminds me (and should encourage you) that simple is always best and delivers results. This convoluted trash bin received no trash from me. I’m guessing I’m not the only one. I just walked away annoyed. If you want to annoy people, be complex and make it hard to do business with you. If you want to be persuasive, provide great value, or even just simply make a cogent point, “simple” always wins.
