This week’s focus point…So What Have You Done?14_02_DanCapJackRetouch_001

This past weekend was graduations for the two high schools where I’m school board president. That means I got to sit on stage and listen to a number of fantastic student speeches from the salutatorians and valedictorians. Their wisdom was well thought out and on point. They all talked about the future, successes and setbacks, how everything was out there for them, and how to take the world by the tail.

Whenever I listen to student speakers at graduation, it takes me back to my own high school graduation in 1983. I don’t remember our student speakers or what they said. I’m sure it was good, but 31 years is a long time. I’m guessing they spoke about hope, opportunity, success, and joy. So wherever you are right now in your life, how’s it working out for you? How have you done on that path to “the sky is the limit” pep talk you received?

Life is fill of speed bumps and diversions on that path to nirvana. That’s what is unimaginable when you’re 18 years old and often insurmountable when you’re 38, 48, or 58. This is no time for regrets; in fact it’s just the opposite. This time of year should be a time of renewal because it’s never too late to make that fresh start; to try that new thing; or to be bold and daring. Wow…I sound like a graduation speaker don’t I? Maybe you should pretend you’re sitting in front of me listening with your life in front of you and no limits.

Because you are…
