Object of Interest.

If you’re like me, you like food. Some people like to cook it, while others simply like to eat it. I fall into the latter category. However, I do enjoy watching the Food Network and their show, The Next Food Network Star. It’s basically another reality television show where contestants try to impress judges and earn the right to get their own show on the network.

One of the hosts, Bobby Flay told one of the contestants that in order to be a Food Network star, they needed to offer more than great food. People will be flipping through their channels with a remote ready to find something that interests them. The Food Network Star needs to be someone who creates enough interest to get the channel surfer to stop and watch.

And so it is in business.

You must do more than just offer value. You must be an object of interest. You must be able to create a buzz; capture imagination; be a contrarian; make someone stop what they are doing and think. When Ken Griffey Jr. stepped to the plate in his prime, I stopped what I was doing to watch. When Seth Godin writes a new book, I pick it up to read. When Oprah Winfrey (like her or not) was on television, the world watched.

Become that object of interest in your world and become your own star!
