LISTEN…

Floss.

Because I want healthy teeth and gums. Because I want to keep my teeth forever.

Walk the dogs.

Because they need it. Because I need it, too – both physically and mentally.

Practice Spanish.

Because I want to improve. Because I want to talk with all my family fluently.

Write 250 words.

Because I want to expand my intellectual property. Because I’m a writer.

Read.

Because I want to be well-rounded. Because it stimulates my thinking and life.

Resolve is the root for the word “resolution.” These are just five of my daily resolutions for 2021 and beyond. One must have resolve in order to attain. So how do you strengthen resolve?

  1. You simplify by creating daily activities and behaviors.
  2. You create metrics by writing them down and marking them off when completed.
  3. And you create reasons why. I’ve shared my two-deep reasons why after each one. The deeper your “why’s” go, the stronger your resolve and the more likely it is that you will succeed.

For me, flossing my teeth daily requires discipline. It’s required to maintain oral health. It also scares the hell out of me thinking about losing my teeth later in life.

As my professional mentor Alan Weiss says, “Logic makes people think, emotion makes them act.” I will add, emotion will drive resolve when apathy and distraction set in.

What will you be flossing in 2021?

Quote of the Week:

“Mental Toughness is the ability to slow your mind and thinking in the midst of chaos and uncertainty in order to react and respond with purpose and courage.”.”

~ Dan Weedin
